The water we cover

Durango Fly Company covers two core waters: the San Juan below Navajo Dam, the tailwater that fishes all winter, and the Animas River through Durango. Area reservoirs are covered too, until they freeze. Once a reservoir ices over, the reports on it stop for the season. We do not cover ice fishing.

Live numbers, every day

The gauges on this page and in the reports update through the day from USGS and the Colorado Division of Water Resources, 17 of them across rivers, high country creeks, and reservoir levels. If a gauge is down, the site says unavailable rather than showing an old number.

What a report is

Each report is one day on one water, written the same day. It records the flow and water temperature from the nearest gauge, the weather, where in the water column the fish were feeding, what we tied on, and what happened. A report from a slow day says so. Reports are dated and stay up, so you can look back at what the Animas did at 300 cfs in September, or what the San Juan fished like at 875.

Free reports are open to everyone. Subscriber reports go deeper, with flies, water temperatures, and notes we keep for people who fish here often. A subscription is $10 a month or $60 a year, and Trout Bot comes with it.
